Project Overview

Zach Coffin’s sculpture The Horn Section is a piece of public art commissioned by the City of Atlanta in 2007. The art installation is a 45-foot tall dedication to the jazz roots of the Castleberry Hill neighborhood in Atlanta. Three 14 foot long horns at the top of the figurative structure are kinetic and move in unison as the wind blows – much like the horn section of any jazz ensemble.

The sculpture was damaged during a severe thunderstorm in 2016 and one of the horns was destroyed. Building Four Fabrication was commissioned by the City of Atlanta to fabricate a replacement bell, repair the remaining horns, and strengthen the internal structure of the piece itself. Building Four painstakingly recreated the sculptural bells and reinforced the interior of the sculpture. A few months after the damage, Building Four’s installation crew restored all the horns to their rightful, music-making places.
